At the bottom of the wide steps across the street from the entrance of the Vatican Museums. The steps are located between Caffè Vaticano and Hotel Alimandi Vaticano, on the corner of Viale Vaticano and Via Tunisi. Our City Wonders coordinators will be wearing blue City Wonders/Guideman polo shirts or jackets for easy recognition. The closest metro stop is on line A (red line): Ottaviano - Musei Vaticani. Arriving from Ottaviano - Musei Vaticani metro A station: When you step off the metro, exit the turnstiles, walk straight to the back of the station and go to the left-side exit. Once you've reached the left-side exit, go out on the side marked V.le Giulio Cesare (to your right). Leave the station and walk straight (west) down Viale Giulio Cesare (which turns into Via Candia) for 3 ½ blocks, crossing three junctions (1. Via Vespiano 2. Via Leona IV and 3. Via Santamaura) before getting to Via Tunisi, the fourth junction. Turn left down Via Tunisi and walk straight for a block. In front of you will be a set of wide steps with a handrail running down the center. Your meeting point is at the BOTTOM of these steps. In total, the walk from the metro station to the meeting point should take around 10 – 15 minutes. Arriving from St. Peter's Square: Facing St. Peter's Basilica from the center of piazza (near the obelisk), turn right (north) and exit the piazza through the columns. Follow the Vatican walls (which will always be on your left side) all the way around to the entrance of the Vatican Museums (the entrance is on the left as you go uphill on Viale Vaticano.) This walk should take around 15 – 20 minutes.

7:30 AM
St. Peter's Basilica , Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Vatican City
In the early morning, meet your guide at the Vatican Museums before the site opens to the public. Depending on the option selected when booking, you’ll be escorted to either the Pinecone Courtyard or the Vatican cafeteria for breakfast, followed by your exclusive tour of the Vatican’s many iconic attractions, from the Sistine Chapel to the Gallery of Maps to the Renaissance artwork inside Raphael’s Rooms.

Both tour options end at St Peter’s Basilica, which you have access to via a VIP entrance. Inside, prepare to be wowed by art like Michelangelo’s Pieta sculpture and Bernini’s Baldacchino canopy. When your tour ends and you say goodbye to your guide, you are welcome to stay inside St Peter’s Basilica.

Our guide, Diorianna was so good. She taught us so much and she was very interesting. I would love a private tour with her next time. She was so knowledgeable and did a great job with the group

Group too big this time...
Susan_B
, Jun 2022
This is my second time on this tour and while I rated my last trip a 5 (and came back 8 months later with a different person), this tour was not as good. Our guaranteed "small group" was nearly double the size paid for in the ticket because the company had to combine two groups as one guide called in sick with Covid. That made it harder to hear and move as a group.

Great experience. Worth the early start!

his was an excellent experience. I highly recommend spending a little extra to have this early morning one. The breakfast was fantastic and a unique experience. Whilst this was busier than expected, it is worth it as we noticed it was incredibly busier as we were leaving with long lines during the day. Great experience and our tour guide, Ilaria was amazing. 5 Stars to her for her professionalism, knowledge and inclusiveness!

Great guide poor situation

Excellent guide stuck w/ tough circumstances. Two tours combined into one due to guides not showing up. I guess this happens. But my expectation is that we will be refunded some money since it was no longer a small tour. Good news is that the tour guide was calm under pressure and delivered a great tour. Note that our tour for the collesium through Viator on the previous day was canceled last minute. It was a really bad deal. Guess employee absences have been bad.

Great Experience

Meeting area was very easy to find. Dr. Dariana (Doctorate in archeology from Bologna University) was awesome. We moved through at an enjoyable pace. Her advanced knowledge was wonderful and added even more to the tour. Breakfast was better than expected. It was crowded so I would tell others to not book on a Monday, but even then the crowds weren’t too bad. Other than that, highly recommend.

What a great way to experience the Vatican. Wonderful breakfast and knowledgeable tour guide. Was able to experience everything without the crowds. Going early is the best was to see the Vatican. Sad that the basilica was not open to this tour.

The breakfast at the Vatican was delicious and our guide was wonderful and incredibly knowledgable! I was so glad that we had early access to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel because the lines were huge when we were leaving.

Worst experience ever- a scam
Cira_R
, Jun 2022
First of all we paid over 600 dollars for this tour and wr were not able to do it. We called the customer service of city wonders and they were not in communication with the tour guide at the Vatican. People in our party were waiting for us and saw the tour guide selling our tickets. We got to the meeting point 3 minutes before time and the guide said oh too late we are not letting you join your party. We pleaded and begged and then called city wonders and still no help. This is a SCAM, don’t do it. We ended up finding a local tour guide that was a quarter of the price and included everything this included. Still waiting on viator to respond with a full refund.

Great experience - breakfast was lovely and being in the Vatican earlier than the general public was much better as it was less crowded. Tour guide was also very knowledgeable.

Less crowds and perks galore.
Steven_C
, Jun 2022
Vatican is a must see and the perks of this tour were well worth it. Early access to skip the line and less crowds. The breakfast was filling and fabulous. At the end our tour guide also was able to get us out a door that allowed us to then skip the line for the Basillica.

What a great experience. The breakfast was very tasty and was in a beautiful outdoor setting. You only sit with your party to eat, not the whole group (each party has their own table). The tour is also very good. Very informative.

Not VIP, Don’t Get Guide Giuliano
Hillary_S
, Jun 2022
Great breakfast, knowledgeable and affable guide. 1) Guide Giuliano - do not get him! His pronunciation was TERRIBLE* and no one could understand him. He would also repeat the same thing 4-6 times and was slow. Then he actually stopped the tour TWICE to give us a long commercial - one for a burger joint and one for ice cream place. Tacky & unprofessional! He needs a lot more training. 2) This is not VIP - there are another 400+ people on this with you and the Vatican is Very crowded. *I’ve traveled to Italy several times and this was one of six tours this trip given by Italians. We didn’t have any understanding problems w any other guide. He just can’t pronounce well.

Fun in the Vatican
Mark_D
, Jun 2022
The meeting and entry were easy. Breakfast was way larger than expected in the garden of the Vatican, a nice surprise. Our guide provided very detailed information for is and the ear pieces made it easy to hear and understand. Everything went smoothly and we enjoyed our day. There is so much in the Vatican that it can be overwhelming but this helped to focus our time and energy.

The guide was very knowledgeable but spoke way toooo much.

The beauty of the art. Our guide was way too wordy, spoke more than he should have. Folks in the tour groups began to remove their ear pieces.

Perfect morning
Thomas_W

Excellent tour with no waiting in lines. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave lots of background on Michaelangelo. A priest was in the Sistine Chapel offering blessings. We did get into St. Peter’s which was a bonus.

My daughter and I did...
fcpeterson946
, Jun 2022
My daughter and I did this same tour several years ago and it was not as crowded. Also, there was a funeral in St. Peter’s Basilica so we could not finish our tour in there which was a disappointment since my granddaughter has never been to Rome before. Nothing you could have done about any of this, but it did lead to a less desirable experience.
