Travel from Rome to Tivoli by air-conditioned coach to start your day trip. As you travel, listen to your guide’s commentary about Tivoli, a historic town in the Monti Tiburtini hills. A prestigious vacation spot in the days of Ancient Rome, the town is now popular for its two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este.

Your first stop in Tivoli is at Hadrian’s Villa for a walking tour. Hear how the villa belonged to Emperor Hadrian who desired an unassuming vacation home as a tribute to his lover. By modern standards, his ‘humble abode’ could be considered a town in its own right.

The ruins of the emperor’s impressive estate consist of more than 30 buildings, and you’ll see the highlights as you explore. Discover the complex ruins of the old imperial palace as well as thermal baths, temples, libraries and subterranean passages that are wide enough for vehicles.

Enjoy lunch at your own expense, and then continue to Villa d'Este: explore the former Benedictine convent, and see why many consider the villa to be one of the finest of the Renaissance era.

As you explore, hear how Villa d’Este was built as an opulent abode for the son of Lucretia Borgia, a 15th-century duchess who attracted drama and gossip wherever she went. Make your way past the Fountain of Neptune, and wander through the gardens to see waterfalls, fountains and centenary trees.

Leave Villa d’Este after your tour, and then relax on your journey back to Rome.
Stop At:
Villa Adriana
This enchanting day trip from Rome begins with a 40-minute bus ride to Hadrian’s Villa. The vastness of Hadrian’s estate is a sight that will surely impress. The Emperor chose to build his residence outside the city in a place rich in water, in order to build the famous Canopus, one of the most preserved sites left in the complex. The statues surrounding this pool of water create stunning reflections on its surface, beautifully surrounded by luscious green gardens

Bernini’s monumental Neptune’s Fountain is considered the most impressive, its water jets reaching a height of 10 meters. Great trip hilighting two amazing sites just outside of Rome. Guide will show you a decent restaurant for lunch. Thanks Giuseppe!
Excellent Tour
, Jul 2021
Wonderful tour! We were very lucky, with tourism way down in Rome there were only 5 people on the tour, it was like a personal tour with Giuseppe. He is an excellent tour guide, patient, took the time to make sure we were happy with the tour all along the way. Of course, he is well versed in the history and answered all of our questions during the tour. Two points: 1. Very easy to find the meeting place, the number 224 is posted on the building (higher up than you might expect) 2. We did not include the lunch. While we found the selected restaurant to be fine, but we like to do our own thing for lunch, typically a small meal. That said, the lunch that they provided was "large", actually too much for us to have for lunch. One couple did include the lunch, and it seemed like a typical Italian multi course meal. Overall, excellent day with a knowledgeable guide.
A must see villa

The fountains were amazing. Joseph our guide was very informative. The trip was well planned and at a good pace.
Excellent guide, beautiful spots, needs some tweaking

The guide, Hadrian’s and Tivole were wonderful. The driver was lovely and very sAfe. The included lunch was tasty, but the restaurant did not say what we were eating and one man was very allergic to mushrooms. If they had just said, here is tagliatelle con porcini” he would have known. I am sorry but I would give the lunch no stars. They seemed very unhappy to have us there. Also, maybe the guide could have helped translate lunch issues because some of our group spoke no italian. The restaurant was not good about saying what we were eating. Also there was one of the angriest ladies I have ever seen on our tour from Milan with her daughter. She thought she had booked an Italian only tour and spent the entire day yelling in Italian about how angry she was. I speak Italian and was understanding what she said. Our sweet guide tried to make it ok, but it was very uncomfortable. Luckily the others in my group could not understand her. I understand her frustration, but it was ugly. Tour organizers should probably clarify tour language and fix issues with lunch restaurant as the allergic gentleman did not have his epi pen with him. It could have been avoided with some basic paper menus in English or someone to introduce the lunch dishes. Also, pick up spot for tour is ridiculously hard to find. Easy fixes Viator!!!
Avoid This Tour !!!! Terrible Experience !!!
, Jul 2021
I could not find the starting point of the tour, despite searching a lot. There was no telephone number I could call and ask the tour guide, which was very, very frustrating!!! The biggest issue was that they did not set a certain meeting point, like in front of ABC Cafe or XYZ Bank. The location was the exit of a metro station and I searched for the starting point at that set metro station for more than 30 minutes but was unable to find anyone or get in touch. As a result, I missed the tour and lost my 83 Euros. I would definitely not recommend this tour!!!! If you do not want to waste your hard earned money, avoid this tour!!!!

Tivoli Tour

Joseph, our guide, was wonderful. He was full of knowledge about each villa and the town of Tivoli. There were nuances about each villa that we would not have understood without Joseph. Would prefer to have a little more time to explore Villa d’Este fountains/gardens rather than shopping. Lunch was included in our tour and it was delicious.
Good option to go to Villa Hadriana

Good tour, really liked the villa Hadriana, but found the visit of villa d'Este a bit rushed. some seats in the car did not have seatbelt either which is not ideal

Amazing service , small group felt like the whole villa was opened for us , our guide was truly warm experienced and knew history inside and out .
Greenhalf family day trip to Tivoli
, Aug 2020
The guide Joseph was very informative for the whole visit (he had a good knowledge of the sites with illustrations) and made sure we did not miss out on any special attractions. He also kept to a fairly tight schedule which enabled us to spend a lot of time later in Tivoli gardens and he gave us enough time to take our own photos. The lunch was also fairly good. We would recommend the visit to anyone as there is a lot to see in a short time. Pick up was organised well and we arrived back in Rome in good time to do some shopping.

Great Day Tour!

We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Tivoli. Our guide was excellent and very informative at Hadrian's Villa as well as at Villa D'Este. Both places were beautiful in their own individual ways and we enjoyed each place we toured. Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see something outside of the Rome area.
