Returns to original departure point
Meet your guide and small group of no more than six near the Vatican Museums.

Listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so you’ll learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship. Your ticket gives you early access to the chapel as one of the day’s first visitors, so you can enjoy it without the crowds.

Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, The Creation of Adam, as well as The Last Judgment gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.

When your time in the chapel is up, reconvene with your guide and bypass the main admission lines for a tour of the Vatican Museums’ highlights.

Stroll around the Pinecone Courtyard, and see works like the Belvedere Apollo and Laocoon Priest of Troy statues. Admire the celebrated marble Belvedere Torso, and stroll through the must-see 16th-century Gallery of Maps, Gallery of the Tapestries, and Raphael Rooms.

Afterward, walk back through the Sistine Chapel — seeing how crowded it is during normal opening hours — and continue through an exclusive exit into St. Peter’s Basilica.

Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious Pietà, the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument among other great works.

Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

It was a great experience, the Sistine chapel is the most awe inspiring room I have ever visited. Alessandro is a great guide and gave a lot of historical background and answered all my questions.

Amazing tour!

Amazing tour! Ella was such a great tour guide—she was educated in archeology and is a Catholic so you could tell she really loved sharing the Vatican with us. The tour was just as advertised, with only six of us. I don’t like guided tours usually, but it was so worth it to have someone like Ella to help pick out all the worthwhile sites amid numberless artifacts and art pieces. It would have been fascinating without her, but not nearly as much so. Ella was very kind and attentive to all of us, took care of all the tickets and everything. I highly recommend.

We're so glad you had such a fantastic time on the Early Access Vatican tour you took with Ella. As you mention, there is so much to see and learn about, it can be rather daunting. But with a wonderful guide, the visit is definitely unforgettable. Thank you again and all best wishes Angelo and Kristin

Giovanna was amazing! We learned so much during our time with her. She is very knowledgeable and made sure that we all took in all of the history and fun facts. We were one of the first ones in the Sistine chapel. We got very lucky to have the time to really appreciate it. I definitely recommend this tour for anyone coming to the Vatican for the first time or returning. It is worth it!

As you mention, the opportunity to get into the museum and see the Sistine Chapel before the big crowds enter makes the experience so much better. Add to that, a great guide like Raffaella and you're really good to go. Thanks again for your review Angelo and Kristin

Best tour of the vatican!
, Aug 2021
We booked this tour for our family of 6. We had a private tour with Francesca. She was lovely! She took her time to explain everything. You will also receive some information documents from the Sistine chapel. My mother has a disability and Francesca took into account of my mothers disability and walked more slowly. Francesca is an archeologist and knew a lot about the history of the Vatican. After the tour at the musea we had a lunch break with some food and drinks (included with the tour). Afterwards we walked to the basilica. Because of COVID we had to walk to the main entrance of the basilica. It took us more time, but it was no problem for Francesca. The tour lasted 4,5 hours. Two people of our group had a tour before at the Vatican with a group of 20 people. They didn’t see half of the Vatican. With this tour you get to see the Vatican and you will receive a lot of information. I highly recommend this tour! Next time we will definitely book a tour with LivItaly tours! Thank you Francesca!
