Follow your guide through the world-famous botanical garden, which houses a variety of native and exotic plants from all over the globe. Walk though enormous redwood trees, ponds filled with water lilies and stately imperial palm trees. Enter the garden's greenhouse to admire over 500 different varieties of orchid.

As you stroll amongst the garden's many splashing fountains and interesting historical landmarks, listen for the calls of the local bird life.

Board your vehicle to travel to your next stop, the Tijuca Rainforest. This large, protected swath of rainforest is located just ten minutes outside the city center and is home to a wide variety of plants and animals.

Hop out of the vehicle for an easy hike through the forest, keeping a lookout for exotic birds and monkeys along the way. Listen as your guide talks about the preservation of the ecosystem and the history of the forest. Pass by landmarks like Açude da Solidão (Loneliness Dike), Capela Mayrink (Mayring Chapel) and Cascatinha de Taunay (Taunay Waterfall).

Depart the rainforest and make a brief stop to watch the hang gliders riding the waves at Pepino Beach, then return to your Rio hotel for drop-off.

Get a nice perspective from the Tijuca Rainforest. At Vista Chinesa (Chinese View), capture sweeping views of Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, Guanabara Bay and even as far as Niteroi. The lookout was built between 1902 and 1906. The oriental-style pagoda is a reference in honor of the Chinese who brought tea cultivation to Brazil in the early 19th century. Made of bamboo and cement, and situated 380 meters above sea level, it is an important tourist spot in the city.

It was at this table that Dom Pedro I, when he wanted a meal in the middle of one of the most beautiful views, would leave his residence at Quinta da Boa Vista and, with his cart, would head towards Estrada da Vista China. At an altitude of 487 meters above sea level, the Emperor's Table is set against stunning views of the city, counteracting urbanization and nature. Stairs surrounding the parapet of the area lead the tourist to the edge of a concrete ramp, making the tourist feel in the midst of a splendid setting.

Capela Mayrink
Take a short stop at this historical chapel. The little pink chapel in the middle of the woods, 460 meters above sea level, resembles a house of children's history. It was erected in 1860 by the Portuguese banker Viscount de Souto inside his farm, in Tijuca Forest. The Chapel is one of the attractions of Tijuca National Park. Adorn the altar reproductions of panels with holy images of Cândido Portinari. The gardens, as well as the Carrara marble and tiled patio tub with frowning spout, were designed by landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx.

It was lovely to ride through the streets of rio and into the edge of the rainforrest. You need to be fit enough to walk in the heat. It was lovely pretty place in botanical gardens, and visited the chinese temple viewpoint and into tijuka rainforrest area incuding waterfalls. Did see some birds- vultures, parakeets and spider monkeys. The tour lasts around 4 hours.

Botanical gardens was beautiful and the rainforest was an amazing sight seeing, animal spotting opportunity. I would recommend that you take plenty of water due to the sun exposure in an open top jeep. Overall good tour however was not worth the money i could have done this myself a lot cheaper

Tour was scheduled for 8 AM. Hotel Concierge call local phone # and was told pick up would be 9 AM. Guide (Jeep Tours) didn't arrive until 9:30 AM. Tour was only 3 hrs including time stuck in traffic plus picking up and dropping off others at different hotels. Guide was very friendly.

Disappointing. Hardly any flowers in the Botanical Gardens. There were only half a dozen orchjds. Did not see any monkeys. The rain forest for the most part you drove up and down the mountain. The falls were nice. Not enough sights. Excellent tour guide 2 star

Yes, I wanted to see the Botanical Gardens, but the tour probably stayed there too long. We drove up into the rainforest, but only had time to look at a photograph of the waterfall we should have hiked to. I am not sure why we had to sit in full sun in the back of an open jeep when we never drove anywhere but on sealed roads. Disappointing as it did not deliver what was promised.

This tour was a waste of my time and money. The tour guide rushed us through the Botanical Garden and would not see the areas of the park containing the orchids. He was not well informed and I could have done this tour by myself, as all he did was read the signs in the park and rainforest.

The tour jeep was an hour late. Someone who took the same tour two days ago warned me of that. So being an hour late twice in three days is unuausal. The rainforest is not that spectacular. And we only stopped for a waterfall and a Chinese pavillion.

During the Carnival periods in Brazil, street celebrations causing heavy traffic is a common problem. Since many tours can be delayed due to this, it is highly recommended that you stay in contact with the local tour operator in order to be prepared for a change in departure time.

The Rainforest is fantastic. We made several stops along the way to overlook the city, view the waterfall and visit the visitors center. We then made a couple stops to watch the hangliders from the mountatin and then the beach. The only negative was that we did not go to the Botanical Gardens at all.
