From Florence:Val d'Orcia Wine tour,Brunello Montalcino,Pienza and Montepulciano

This was a great tour to explore a winery in both Montalcino and Montepulciano. Mattia was a terrific tour guide and we'll never forget our day out with him. We were especially thankful that they did the tour with only the two of us on quick notice. We started with a tour at a fabulous winery in Montalcino. Ariana gave us a wonderful tour of her family winery and all of the wines were amazing. Then, we drove to the village of Pienza and had a wonderful lunch outside overlooking the valley. After that we drove to Montepulciano and had a wonderful tour and wine tasting. This is an all day tour as you have bi of a drive from Florence to this area, but it is well worth it and Mattia was a wonderful guide and we enjoyed our time with him. Highly recommend this tour and company.

The trip was well worth the money spent. For any day trip from Florence you spend time in the car. Luca was great at letting us know small facts about the places we passed as we drove. The wineries chosen were great and so friendly. The small group setting is so much better than the larger tours. Highly recommend, especially our driver Luca. He was just great!!

Mattia, our tour guide, was awesome, punctual and the communication was great. We had a lot of fun during the Montepulciano wine tasting, our sommelier was superb. Then, the views during lunch were amazing I just wish the service at the restaurant would have been better. The last tasting at Montalcino was also excellent. Would recommend.

Mattia and the Keys to Italy company gave us a tour throughout the Valdorcia region of Tuscany that we'll never forget. The tour included 3 stops: (1) a morning wine tasting in the village of Montepulciano, (2) lunch at a restaurant in the small village of Pienza, (3) and an afternoon winery tour and tasting in Montalcino. We left at 8AM and returned to Florence around 7:30PM. You spend quite some time in the van, but you are coming from Florence and covering a lot of ground. Worth it. All of our hosts were gracious, spoke great English, were happy to have us, and provided much more than they needed to. If you are into Montepulciano and Montalcino wines, this is the best you'll get considering how much distance you cover in one day. Everyone was knowledgeable, down to earth, proud of the product/service they provide, and left an impression on our group. We were a group of 4 (two couples). Highly recommend and this is a great / unique alternative to Chianti.

Our guide Angel was very engaging and has worked as a sommelier in the past. I have some experience so he was able to provide me with detailed information that made the trip even better. The winery and guide at Solaria in Montalcino made it interesting and exciting with tours of the cellar, fermentation areas, and bottling. The wines were excellent. Lunch in Pienza was very good as well. Montalpuciano is a small quiet village (probably since we were off season). We did a tasting there and toured the cellars and had time to shop etc. Since it was offseason the weather was rainy and some shops were closed but I still enjoyed the opportunity to visit. Angel was a great guide.

When I booked this tour it had few reviews (albeit all positive), however, when I checked the day before we were due to take the tour, the rating had dropped - therefore approached the tour with some apprehension. They overbooked the tour and there were 2 groups scheduled for the day. When we arrived, a luxury mini coach transported the first group of 8 away with an Italian tour guide. When our driver finally showed up, there were 6 adults due to fit in a station wagon. The 4 others joining us immediately gave up and requested a refund, as this transport was ridiculous for a 10 hr roadtrip. It would have been nauseating and squished for all of us except the person up front in the passenger seat. We decided to continue with the tour despite the rocky start. The driver we had said nothing about where we were going, where we were or what we were seeing. He was a driver not a guide. Tuscany is beautiful, but for $430 CDN, I felt there was little value for money from what the tour operator provided. Part of the charm of visiting new places are the stories you hear, the history of the area - we got none of that. The vegetarian lunch while good, was also short on value. We enjoyed the day in the end but it was because we were on holiday in Italy.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The driver (Alberto) was an excellent driver (it was raining). He did his best to be heard over some of the more talkative members of our group of eight. My only suggestion would be to have some amplification for the driver because if you're not in the front seat, you can't hear him very well. That being said the tour was excellent. The wineries visited were very generous at sharing their products and information. The lunch in Pienza was delicious but unfortunately, because of the weather, it was harder to enjoy the amazing views. We left Florence at 8.30 AM and returned about 6 PM, so it is a long day. It might also be difficult if you have mobility issues, to visit the second cellar because of the stairs. Otherwise, we would recommend this tour for it's variety, lovely wines, terrific lunch and of course, the fabulous Tuscan countryside.

Alberto picked us in piazza Antinori, it was a nice drive through beautiful countryside of Tuscany first to Montalcino where we had a winery visit, Brunello wine was fantastic. Than a delicious lunch followed by a short walk in Pienza, which is a jem. Than in Montepulciano we visited an underground cellar again with traditional food and some more wine.

The tour was long - 10.5 hrs long - it was a day trip to the wine areas near Florence. The van was new and in good condition. The driver was excellent. The tour was mainly a ride to 2 wineries (that both offered the same free tours to anyone who dropped by) and a meatless lunch in a cute town. The scenery was extraordinary. The driver really made a concerted effort to teach us what he knew about the area. There was no real tour guide and the wineries, while nice, were not worth the time/effort/cost it took to get there. essentially, it was a mode of transportation to nearby cities that you had just a few minutes to see.
