Small-Group Day Trip to Colonia from Buenos Aires

The ferry to Buenos Aires and back was not the newest ship in the world. But it seemed very sea worthy and got us there and back safely. The port facilities seem to be well run. The morning ferry to Colonia was nearly full (app 1,000 people). Check in, immigration and customs took nearly an hour. The tour guide met us as soon as we got off the ferry. She was very knowledgeable and her English was quite good. The history of Colonia is very interesting. We had a very nice lunch at a local restaraunt. Colonia is very clean and the people were very friendly.

Great experience. Excellent guide in Colonia and in the transport. The boat ride between Buenos Aires and Colonia was enjoyable.

He ferry ride was very smooth and quick. Once we arrived we easily found our guide was was awesome. She shared so much history and answered all our curiosity. She annunciated so clearly and was easy to communicate with. We had a great meal there that we took photos of and keep talking about. The walk along the coast was so peaceful we could feel so much stress released. Got back in Time for another lovely meal in Buenos Aires.

After a quick boat ride across from Buenos Aires to Colonia, Uruguay, we had a nice tour with Alejandra. She was lively and very informative, and knew her city well (one of seven English-speaking tour guides in Colonia). After a 2 1/2 hour tour, we had three hours on our own to walk around to see the sites and the culture. We had lunch at Charco, recommended by Alejandra, and it was wonderful, right on the water. While this tour was at the upper end in price, we enjoyed ourselves and liked the tour guide.

This day trip to Uruguay is amazing! It starts with a personal pickup at your hotel where you're dropped off at the boat terminal. It is a really great treat to see Buenos Aires from the coast. The seats are comfy and great for a nap on the ride over. When you arrive in Colonia, your guide meets to pick you up inside the terminal. Prepare for the 3.5 min car ride from the terminal to the old city of Colonia : Then you get a personalized walking tour through the city where all the hot spots are pointed out, a guide only location in a old hotel plaza, and recommendations to eat lunch and what do to on your free time. There is a significant number of things to do in Colonia: lighthouse with great views of the entire city, three sides surrounded by water, the old fort wall, multiple original cobblestone streets and buildings in both Portuguese and Spanish design a unique aspect of this city, many shops with local handmade items, and countless restaurants both in the old city and right outside on the main street. The walking tour takes about an hour and then you're given about 4 hours on your own. Once you meet back up with your tour guide, you're driven back to the terminal and are helped through the ticket line. Once you get back on board, the boat offers a duty free shop and a snack bar as well. Your driver from the morning will pick you up right inside the terminal in Buenos Aires and take you back to you hotel. For this trip you don't need to exchange money for Uruguayan Pesos as there is an exchange store in Colonia and is only needed for the city's museums. The Argentinian Pesos is widely accepted elsewhere in addition to being able to use your credit card at many restaurants and stores on the main street. You'll need your passport for this trip. We highly recommend this detour from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires for a relaxing day on your own pace while also being able to check a second country off your list.

El viaje en BuqueBus fue corto y agradable. El proceso de inmigración un poco cansón y mas aun con los protocols de covid. Pero el paseo en Colonia fue una linda experiencia. No esto seguro si a gente muy joven les vaya a gustar. Pero para nosotros ya mayores, estuvo re-lindo.

La guía turística que nos atendió es excelente. Mcuho conocimiento sobre la cuidad, amable y muy atenta.
