Verdon Gorge (Gorges du Verdon)

Alpes de Haute Provence, France

The Basics

Whether you're after adventure or relaxation, the Alpes de Haute Provence region has it all. The stretch of the Verdon River that flows between Castellane and Chasteuil boasts Class I-IV rapids, making it an ideal place for thrill-seeking rafters. Hiking trails abound, with the 9-mile (14-km) Sentier Martel trail ranking as one of the country's top treks, while the emerald waters of the Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon lake, nestled deep within the limestone canyon, prove the perfect place to swim or sunbathe. For rock climbers, the gorge provides ample adventures with its 15-mile (25-km) network of climbing routes.

Experience the best of Provence (Verdon Gorge included) on a day trip tour from Cannes, Aix-en-Provence, or Nice that also visits the picturesque pilgrimage site of Castellane and the medieval village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, famed for its pottery industry.

The villages and scenery of course was absolutely beautiful. The guide was a bit rushed as well as the time at each stop. But overall a good tour.

Private Tour to Gorges du Verdon and its Lavender Fields
Alex was a great tour guide. He was very friendly and made sure we had a good time. The roads are very bad for those prone to car sickness. Alex was patient when a few people started feeling sick. He was even prepared with medication and water to help us. Verdon Gorge is a must see. The whole trip we got to see amazing sights and experience local culture.

Our guide Solene was incredible. She was very knowledgeable and she made the day so wonderful for us. The Gorge du Verdon was stunning and the town we visited (Moustiers) was also a highlight.

Great views of the Gorge, very nice taste of the countryside of Provenve, with forests, waterfalls, villages and lavender fields. Only think, we would like an hour more at the lake.

Our guide, Ondrej, was amazing! He was so knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. If we wanted to spend a little more time in one location, he had no issue. All of the places we saw were absolutely spectacular. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

Verdon Gorge and Moustiers Ste-Marie Tour from Aix-en-Provence
Our guide, Gregory is really great! He is so kind and generous during one day travel. He explained the history of each spot in detail. We recommend this route and it would be good season between the mid. of June and the mid. of July to see the blooming lavender and lavendine.

This was one of the best tours I have been on! Highly recommend French Rivera tours and particularly this one. Abdul, our driver, was phenomenal and made me safe on the winding Provence roads. Amazing views! The itinerary was perfect.
